Where there's brass there's money.
To misquote that age-old and very wise Yorkshire adage "Where there's brass there's money" Rod and his band of merry men having been working their socks off turning waste wire and the like into scrap metal.
Over the last six years they have managed to raise a total of over £4,000, Rod's garage and back garden has occasionally looked as if he had his own scrap yard but thankfully just for short periods of time.
Here is a breakdown of exactly where the money came from and shows just how much effort has gone into stripping insulation from redundant cable.
Source | Weight (Kg) | Value (£) |
Wire stripped | 324 | 1,468 |
Copper | 315 | 1,244 |
Brass | 284 | 637 |
Lead | 292 | 352 |
Batteries | 437 | 175 |
Batteries | 437 | 175 |
Mixed | 243 | 175 |
Copper cylinders | 14 | 56 |
Grand totals | 1,909 | 4,107 |
That's an equivalent of 1,909Kgs, 1.89 Long (UK) tons or nearly half an elephant.
These five guys have occasionally had help from other members and thanks go to all of those that have had a hand in the project also for all of the collections and donations that we have had. Special thanks to Rod without whom the project would never have got off the ground in the first place. So a message to all all members:
