Farewell Thommo
Click the image to see a tribute from somebody who never even knew Thommo.
David was affectionately known as Thommo by almost everyone who knew him. He was a friendly, caring person full of empathy, and always ready to help anyone. A devoted husband to Mo he always spoke proudly of his family.
He spent a large proportion of his working life at Vospers but when they decided to reorganise things he decided it was time to leave the shipyard. Not many people knew or appreciated what he did next. Employed as a woodwork and leather work instructor he went to Glen House in Swanwick. This is a secure home for young people aged 10 to 17 years of age needing support with their physical and emotional needs. His arrival was very instrumental to some of the children as he showed care, compassion and he befriended them helping them to change their attitude and ways. Later in life some of those he influenced would if they happened to pass him in town stop and thank him for turning their lives around!
In 2017 Thommo joined the Fareham Men's Shed and made an equal impression there. Donating several pieces of equipment, he brought skills and humour and was always happy to help everyone. He shared his time between his renowned Rocking Horses and getting involved with many different projects within the shed. He would always keep us amused with his many stories and experiences.
Thommo will be sorely missed by us all but his legacy will live on for ever!
Rest in piece Thommo
ps. Thommo never wanted flowers at his funeral but did suggest that a contribution be made to The Rowans Hospice who looked after hi so well during his short stay there. Obviously we complied and here is their thankyou.
