Life in the Car Industry

Chris Nixon's brother Tim gave us a fascinating talk about his career in the motor industry. His company specialises in control systems for the machine tools that make engines and power trains for the major manufacturers.

For most of his life, those engines were internal combustion, but in a rapidly changing world he has been involved with manufacturing motors and batteries for electric vehicles. Battery technology has been a complete culture change. Instead of processes involving the shaping of metal, the industry has to get to grips with new and sometimes dangerous chemicals, new fire hazards, and new approaches to re-cycling.
