Over 30 people attended our recent information forum presented by Yvonne Campbell from the Fareham Rainbow Centre and Sue Mason from Wills and Associated Services.

Yvonne started the morning with an informative presentation on the function of Rainbow. Generally people think that they are just a registered charity for children giving Conductive Education for those suffering with Cerebral Palsy, Motor Learning Difficulties and Delayed Development. Many people are unaware that they also help adults with neurological disorders which affects automatic and voluntary movements and, as a result of this, people who have conditions such as Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke or Head Injuries can find it difficult to maintain the abilities they had before. Yvonne played video which was very emotional showing the encouragement and joy children get from attending the centre. There are many, many ways you can get involved with Rainbow please visit www.rainbowcentre.org, enquiries@rainbowcentre.org or do the old fashioned thing and phone them on 01329 289500.

So after very good question and answer session with Yvonne she handed over to Sue Mason.

This was Sue's third visit and presentation to our shed and each time is as interesting and informative as the previous visits. She spoke about the Lasting Power of Attorney for financial affairs and then explained that there is also one for you health. This is equally import as it allows your next of kin to talk to doctors about your health condition when you are not capable of understanding yourself She had a general chat about wills, tenants in common and then about Home Protection Plan. This is a trust that is set up to protect 100% of the value of your house. Tenants in common will protect 50% of the value should the surviving partner need to go into care but the trust will protect it all. It is quite expensive and takes about 6 months to set up but compared to half the value of your property it could be worth looking into. One down side it does stop you doing equity release. She concluded by giving a brief talk on funeral plans. She has left details in the recreational area in the shed. It did leave all those attending with plenty to think about!
