On a recent visit to the Rainbow centre to assemble some flat pack furniture, we were presented with another task.
Their large raffle drum had snapped one of its pivots and was looking a little very tired with old stickers hanging from it. "Could you do anything with this we were asked?" Always willing to help we said we could repair it and if they would like we could paint it. The reply was "fantastic thank you!" Asked what colour they would like there was a flippant comment "well a rainbow would be nice!"
Well we asked, so the challenge was accepted.
Taking it back to The Shed it was soon repaired and an appeal was put out to our members for small amounts of paint to match the rainbow. With only 1 offer Chris Nixon set about seeing if he could twist any of the DIY stores arms for a donation. Homebase were willing but could only offer emulsion which would not have been really suitable. Not perturbed he called in to other stores and Brewers in Fielder Drive (just off Newgate Lane if you don't know where it is) came up trumps! As it was for the Rainbow Centre they agreed to supply us with paint and after a second visit gave Chris 6, 1 litre tins of varying colours so that we could mix the colours to suit.
Thank you very much Brewers!
It was only when we started to paint that we noticed that The Rainbow Centre's logo was not a standard rainbow. It looks as though they have adopted one of their children's painting which does make it look rather special and meaningful.
We did our best to recreate it and if nothing else it was certainly colourful and the staff at the Rainbow Centre were pleased with it. Mission accomplished!
ps. The batteries below the bench in the pictures are for re-cycling, they are one of the items that Rod recycle@farehammensshed.org.uk collects for sale to re-cyclers.
