What a great day at The Abshot Community Centre, we should do this at least once a year. We had planned for 50 attendees and landed up with 55 so all in all a good event. Tickets were £5 for members and partners and £10 for other guests. It is really great to associate members with their partners and I am sure that it must be just as nice for partners to be able to put a face to a name when we keep babbling on about what great conversation, fun and banter there is at The Shed.
Tea and biscuits, Chocolate Hob Nobs among others, were available throughout, although the bar opened. Tony (our very local pig roast man) turned up on time with his van at 11:00 and gradually the faint aroma of roasting meat began to percolate through the air. Whilst this tantalising aroma began to surround us John P. conducted a quiz on The Normandy Landings. Shame on all of us as none of the teams managed to score 100% although one managed 76% but some of the questions were stinkers. Gordon H. and his team did well although some members reckon that he was probably there at the time.
Then onto the food - Chris H. arranged the rota although I missed it when he called my table out so had to wait. Still it was worth it and from what I could see most of the plates were cleared. Not an enormous repast but just enough for the smaller appetite that most people of our age have.
After the food Tony C. gave us one of his inimitable picture and capital cities quizes. All in all an excellent five hours spent among great company and as it was all on one floor most of our emeritus members were there. Such a shame that they can't make it to The Shed more often, or at least, not for now. We really must do it more often.
Much thanks to Cliff J. (he made a great job of dispensing victuals, we need to get him a pinny next time) and Peter C. for doing most of the arranging and of course to our quizmasters (I don't think that Alexander Armstrong need worry about his future career just yet though). I apologise if the picture of John P. is little blurry but I used the SLR for the first time in ages and forgot about focussing properly but I had to put the picture here just for his shirt).
