Tony Crane R.I.P.
20th February 1950 – 8th April 2025
Tony was born in Blackpool in February 1950, he was joined by his brother Andrew just a year later. Tony wrote a book “As I Recall” and should you ever take the time to read it you will soon realise that Tony's younger days were full of fun and mischievousness and a real “Jack the Lad”. He trained as an apprentice sign writer and silk screen printer. This clearly showed whenever he did hand written posters for us at the shed.
The turning point in his life was when he met Lynda and they were married in June 1973 and later were blessed with 2 lovely daughters Hillary and Alison. Changing jobs Tony became a draughtsman working for Vickers ship builders in Barrow and after 17 years applied for a job at Portsmouth Dockyard. Working as a draughtsman on the HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales aircraft carriers. The move would also bring Tony and Lynda nearer to their daughters who had now both moved to London.
Suffering with diabetes Tony also developed heart problems and had a few scares before retiring in May 2014.
On retiring he joined one of the local bowls clubs before joining Fareham Men's Shed in 2017. He was immediately popular with the members with his wit and one liner comments, he became a Trustee and Social secretary the following year.
Tony kept The Shed going through Covid with his very popular zoom quizzes on a wednesday. He worked hard arranging trips and events and trying to find us bigger premises. Sadly his health deteriorated and he stepped down as a trustee in 2023.
Tony will always be remembered for his witty personality and dedication to The Shed. We are going to miss him dearly but never forget him, thank you Tony!
RIP Tony
